about
Though Kate Bush is known for her pop theatrics, Deer Scout triumphantly shows off a stirring, folk interpretation of Bush’s iconic song “Suspended In Gaffa” — holding onto the drama of the original while maintaining the warmth of their americana style. In lieu of Kate Bush’s signature staccato piano, Deer Scout plays the opening notes strumming a guitar, thoughtfully slowing the song down to a dreamier pace and adding warmth to its tone. Deer Scout’s distinctly folk-laden vocals gracefully swing between falsettos and lower-register melodies, capturing the rollercoaster of Kate Bush’s songwriting while highlighting their own distinct voice. As drums and strings are added, the entire track turns into a swirling, intimate landscape — affectionately holding the original close while exposing it to new sonic territory.

I knew nothing about Squirrel Flower going into this. I loved the album front to back as it reminds me of so much music that I enjoy. Her beautiful voice is an awesome contrast to the fuzz of the guitars. It was tough to choose a favorite song. BobandoCommando
